Info on Phishing scams
We want to take a moment to address an important issue regarding phishing scams that have been targeting churches and their members. Recently, we’ve been made aware of fraudulent emails and text messages that appear to come from Pastor Guy, asking for urgent assistance, gift cards, or personal information. These messages are not from Pastor Guy or our church. Scammers often use similar email addresses or phone numbers to impersonate pastors and staff, hoping to take advantage of kind-hearted individuals.
How to Identify a Scam:
The message asks for gift cards, money, or personal information (we will never make such requests via text or email). It comes from an email address or phone number that looks similar but is not our official contact. The message has a sense of urgency or secrecy. There are spelling or grammar mistakes that seem unusual.
What You Can Do:
Do not reply to suspicious emails or texts. Verify directly by calling the church office or reaching out to MVCC. Report the scam by forwarding the message to office@mvccfrederick.com or marking it as spam. Educate others—if you hear of someone receiving a similar message, encourage them to be cautious. We take your security seriously and want to make sure no one falls victim to these deceitful tactics. If you ever have doubts about a request, please reach out to us directly.
